Palin wishes Pebble Mine were somewhere else
I seldom comment back on comments made on this blog. But here is one that intrigues me. It was posted as a comment to a piece that my editor retitled Republican’s VP pick supports Pebble Mine. Here is the comment as posted by Verner Wilson:
Where did you get the notion that Sarah Palin is for the Pebble Mine? I talked with her last year and she said she was neutral on it and that she wished the prospect was located ’somewhere else.’
I do not know Verner, whence he comes, or more on his discussions with Gov. Palin. But if indeed she wishes the orebody was “somewhere else,” we have an intriguing insight into her thinking. Particularly in the light of the fact that she suspects, correctly I suspect that:
From completion of exploration to development could take 10 years or better because of permitting issues, public hearings and lawsuits.
Why by that time Hilary Clinton could be the second female president. And who knows how the somewhere else, sometime else political instinct could play out then. Maybe get Bill and Giustra to sponsor a community bake-in to resuscitate the mine.
I thank Verner for his comment, and invite him to send me more to post on this story.
